The only thing I will say about Google that maybe affecting our minds concerns our need to memorize. The article touched on this, and I would agree for the most part. Our minds are not used to there full capacity when it comes to memorization. Information is now quick and easy to obtain. People often do not feel compelled to grab on as tightly to new information learned simply because we can refresh ourselves at just about any moment we please. Although I do not believe Google is making us stupid, I do believe it is enabling some of us to become lazier in our pursuits of knowledge.

Is Google Making Us Stupid?
I do not believe that Google is making us stupid. In fact, it enables every single one of us to become researchers. Prior to the availably of Google and the internet, people only had access to new knowledge through the hard copies of books and the word of mouth from the wiser. However, with Google at our fingertips, we are able to access almost everything we would like to know. Information used to take a length of time to travel; now, it is virtually instant.

I think you raise a valid point, I didn't really consider how much it improved our ability to gain knowledge. I also agree with you about our ability to memorize being affected. Good post, and great job backing up your point!
ReplyDeleteI agree that google allows people to gain access to more information. i understand that people were only able to access information through libraries, archives, or their personal encyclopedia collection. when i wrote my post i didn't consider the ability google has given people to access newly updated information as quickly as it is added to a site.

I agree because when one uses google the answer isn't right in front of their face, they have to search and make sure what they are looking for is accurate. I also, agree that google allows people to gain more information and have more access because google is open to everyone and one can search anything on it from good to bad.

I like that you touched on the fact that google is enabling us to become better researchers as most people only focused on the more negative connotation of google making us lazier. While it may be true, google offers up a whole new world to people by enabling them to research what ever aspect of whatever subject whenever they want. It's an information freeway and the search engine google is like a freeway, in which your search is an exit towards the information you seek.
