Is Google making us stupid?
In my opinion, the last thing that the Google search engine is doing is making people more stupid. How you perceive and use the information you have an interest in searching for is what determines "stupidity" or not. For instance, If you are an extremely lazy person that searches a random question on google and you click on the first link, skim quickly for the first sign of the answer, and then permanently pound that in to your knowledge or write a book on it-you're probably stupid-but that's not google's fault. Research, regardless of what it's on, takes more time and effort. Google is just a gateway to allow this research to be found in a shorter and more convenient amount of time. As long as people keep in mind that anyone, anywhere can post anything they want to on the internet (therefore making not everything true), search engines will not make them more stupid. Good things take time, and if it's an answer you NEED to know for exactness-put some extra effort in. You have to weed some things out, and Google is there to provide you with the easiest way to do that.

I think you made a really good point... Google itself is not directly making us 'stupid,' it's what we do with the information. I think Google has actually in a way made us smarter because nowadays we, per person, know so much more because we have so much more information readily available to us and in that sense it makes us much more knowledgeable of the world around us, and more importantly, it's history.
