Canadians, Guitars, & Pac-Man: The Google Generation

Is Google making us stupid? That seems to be the million dollar question here. Clearly, one can find almost anything on Google. For example, when typing in the word "why," one of the first listed frequently asked questions is "Why is my poop green?" and when typing in "why can't," one of the first listed frequently asked questions is "Why can't I own a Canadian?" and, whether these questions are intentional or not, they are some of the frequently asked questions on Google.

Very often, Google's homepage is decked out in colorful animations and backgrounds, which generally keeps a person off-task and excited about seeing a new animation and/or a different background that relates to a person's history, or is just something fun that a person may enjoy watching, playing, or doing (such as guitar strings/strumming, playing Pac-Man, and remembering old tv shows and celebrities).

However, Google does provide insightful information from several sources, if a person takes the time to look, whereas a library traditionally has more information, such as books and reference materials, available. While the information is there, so is the convenience and ability to find the information and expand upon basic knowledge with the click of a button and from the comfort of one's own home.

While Google has the potential to make us stupid, it is really only making us lazy.
