Google making stupid people?
I do not completely agree with his opinion that google and websites like it and making people less intelligent. I do however agree that societies obsession with technology and making things easier has promoted a lazier american lifestyle. their are certain technologies i feel that are extremely frivolous, for example the need people feel to go out and buy the latest televisions is a little overindulgent. the fact that people can shop online and read online, or pretty much do anything online that they would normally have to travel for is relly awesome. but i do believe that by hiding behind search engines and online shopping people are becoming more lethargic and are missing out on the experiences of buying a used book, or of trying clothes on. relying on data base search engines to write a paper is nice, but the writer misses out on the library or archive experience. i believe that things like shopping with your mom are changed into a mechanical process rather than a potentially fond memory. so no, google does not make one dumb, it makes one lazy.

You made a great point by tying in the increasing laziness of America with the use of Google. Google does not directly make someone stupid, YOU have to be the one to enforce such actions by how you utilize the information you search for. If anything google seems to be a gateway for people to be lazier--but it is not, by any means, creating stupidity in the public.
ReplyDeleteI think the statement you both made about google making people more lazy than dumb. Just like the example you gave by technology as a whole is making Americans lazier, because google does everything for people now, and it is becoming so much more easier for people to research stuff. However it doesn't make one dumb because even though its easier for people to research, people are still learning important information, and can learn something new from google. I think you made a great point though how it makes people just more lazy
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post. I did not read it until after I posted my own, but I did notice we had some similar points in our posts. I definitely think Google is making many of us lazier in how and what we learn.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this post because it is pretty apparent that Google was made not only to help us search things, but also to make it easier for us. I think our world this day and age is all about how to go about doing something in the easiest, yet most efficient way, which I think Google does a great job of doing.
