VTech Computer; Computer Lab at school; Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing; Word Muncher; Oregon Trail; Amazon Trail; Schoolhouse Rock CD-Roms

I don’t really remember many experiences with computers. I do know that for Christmas one year (maybe around 11 or 12), I got a Macintosh computer. It was a blue Apple computer, and I got it from “Santa.” It was a great experience. I literally remember jumping up and down and running around the house in my underwear, screaming at the top of my lungs. I was able to have my own computer. I do remember, though, that I think the computer was always in my parents’ room until I finally got one of my own (before the Apple). Christmas; Santa Claus; blue Apple Macintosh; put in my room; given to me for Christmas; think I got a printer with it as well

I can only think of my lack of ability to keep a computer for more than 6 months-1 year. A positive impact a computer has had on me was fitting in because all of my friends generally had their own computer before I did, so when I was able to have my own computer, I was really excited and able to fit in; also, for convenience’s sake, it’s a handy tool.

A kid at summer camp dropping the computer on the floor caused some tension between my family because it showed some lack of responsibility on my part.

Hard drive; mouse; keyboard; screen; applications; software; flash drive; battery; disc drive; USB port; headphone/microphone jack; speakers;

Samantha Harvill:

My first experience with a computer that I can remember is creating an AOL email account and chatting with my other friends that had an aol account as well.

My first computer that was my own was a hp labtop that I received as a graduation present from highschool from my mother. I had to ask for it but I knew I was going to get it because I needed one for college.

Every time I facetime my mom and brother it impacts my life because I miss them all the time and en though Im not with them 24/7 like I used to be while in highschool I can still see them through a computer screen

in highschool I dated this boy name trey for about 2 years and I hacked into his myspace account and found out he cheated on me, and I just remember feeling sick to my stomach and wishing computers and everything didn’t exist

hard drive, monitor, camera, keyboard, mouse, cd drive, screen.

I do not have a data back up soloution, I don’t even know how to do it

If my computer was stolen I would miss all my pictures, and funny videos my friends and I have taken.

Michelle Spivak:

What is the first experience with a computer that you can remember?

Besides using a speak n spell when I was younger, my first experience I remember would be sitting in computer lab playing Math Blaster and Oregon Trail in elementary school, and in fifth grade moving up to Mavis Beacon Typing programs.

• What was the first computer that you owned? Did you purchase it yourself? Did you have to ask for it, or was it just given to you?

The first computer I owned was a Dell laptop that my parents purchased for me to take to college. It was just given to me because it is an essential tool needed for school. It wasn’t till it “broke” two years later that I begged for a Mac laptop that was also purchased by my parents and given to me as a gift.

• Describe a specific instance in which a computer has had a positive impact on your life.

When I was retaking one of my classes because I did so poorly the first time around, I realized all my notes and papers I had taken before were saved on my computer. I was able to refer back for better understanding of the material, and was able to review my previous work and see what I needed to do differently the next time around.

• Describe a specific instance in which a computer has had a negative impact on your life.

I was taking a course in which a computer was necessary. I took all my notes on it and had all my projects saved. The entire thing crashed in the middle of my class, and in order to fix it everything had to be wiped from the computers memory. I lost everything.

• List as many parts of the computer that you can think of.
o Screen
o Monitor (same thing?)
o Cd drive
o Disk drive
o Battery
o Power button
o Speakers

• Do you have a data back-up solution? If so, describe it. If not, is there anything on your computer that you would miss if you computer was lost/broken/stolen?

After losing everything on my first laptop I know I should back it up with a USB drive, but I don’t. I would miss everything on my computer. All my school work, notes, pictures, music, work progress reports, etc.

• Do you do any activities on the computer besides word-processing/gaming that do no involve the internet?

I use Microsoft word to take notes for school, and excel for work.

• List as many sites/networks with which you have an account as you can.
o Facebook
o Twitter
o Vystar credit union
o Suntrust banking
o Blogger
o Glogger
o Google
o FSU campus
o FSU webmail
o Shop it to me
o Ideeli
o Gilt group
o Urban outfitters
o Multiple online stores

• Do you store any data in the cloud? With what service?

I post pictures on facebook, and save things I like to sites such as wanelo.

• What sites (besides fb/email) do you use frequently? What is your distraction rotation? What media/news/etc. do you visit daily.

I visit a lot of different online boutiques daily. I also go on Stumbleupon a lot. I can stay on the shopping sites for hours, but when stumbling I usually am on to the next page within the first couple of minutes. i visit facebook and webmail daily.

Anais Tobar:

  1. I had a V t-tech computer as a young child!
  2. My first computer was a Toshiba I bough myself when I was starting college.
  3. A positive impact would be that it has allowed me to communicate with family when they are far away, via skype.
  4. A negative impact is that it might have made me a little lazy.
  5. Keyboard, mouse, screen, hard drive, CD/DVD drive, USB port
  6. I don’t have a data back up. I would miss my pictures and all the documkents I have saved.
  7. Powerpoint aand Publisher
  8. Aol, FB, Blogger, Ebay, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Hotmail, Fandango, B.o.A
  9. FB pictures
