Is Google making us stupid?

I absolutely think Google is making us stupid. Google makes it so easy to skip doing homework and simply search for the answers there. I'm guilty of in the past saying "I seriously don't know how people went through college without the internet. It must have been so hard!" While i'm not proud of that, I know many others are guilty of saying the same thing. The idea of actually opening a book to look for information is revolting. While I still read for pleasure, I do admit to skimming articles and textbooks in class. The textbook companies do a good job of making the pages look visually appealing, but it's almost impossible to pay attention when my brain knows i'm not reading the information for my pleasure. I think modern technology plays a big role in this. Google has declared that it's mission is to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." While I do appreciate how convenient Google is, I wish I wasn't so reliant on it for everyday tasks and school work.

  1. I think here that it is important to draw a distinction between stupidity and laziness. It seems to me that you're saying not that google is making you stupid or in fact changing the way that your brain works but instead is making you lazy because you know you don't have to work your brain as hard to do your homework as you once had to.
