Group definition of rhetoric

A situation in making language an appealing piece of influential art through a variety of means rather than just a form of communication, in order to convince an audience of your argument.

  1. I really like the definition you guys came up with. I like how you referred to it as an art, and how you pointed out there isn't just one means through which this is done.

  2. This is an interesting, well thought-out definition. I didn't think about rhetoric being an "appealing piece of influential art." I thought of persuasion, getting the speaker to persuade the audience to become influenced by rhetoric. Nicely done!

  3. I agree with Emma, most of the definitions we went through in class on wednesday included some portion devoted to calling rhetoric an art. I also like the spin you put on it by calling it an "influential" piece of art. I think that any definition of rhetoric should be clear that it's not just written or spoken word and both this definition and our's covers this.
